SASMOA President Dr Laura Willington and Chief Industrial Officer Bernadette Mulholland met with State Treasurer Rob Lucas on Friday afternoon regarding the Salaried Medical Officers Enterprise Agreement.
Following constructive discussions with Mr Lucas, SASMOA has decided to POSTPONE the Stop Work Meeting scheduled for tomorrow morning (Tuesday 23 November) at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
Instead of proceeding with the meeting, SASMOA’s negotiators will tomorrow begin an intense period of negotiations with Department of Treasury and Finance and Department of Health and Wellbeing representatives on an updated offer for SASMOA members to consider.
It is only because of the strong action taken by Salaried Medical Officers to date that there are now some signs of real progress. While there will be hard negotiating ahead, there may be a more constructive attitude from the Employer at the negotiating table. If the outstanding matters are unable to be resolved with the State Government we will double our efforts to campaign for better working conditions for frontline doctors.
Your SASMOA leadership is conscious that industrial action that takes you away from your patient care responsibilities is not something you ever do lightly, and we wish to express thanks for your commitment so far and your determination and willingness to continue your campaign for a fair deal for all doctors.
SASMOA expects to report back on progress at a mass meeting of members within 14 days.
Bernadette Mulholland
Chief Industrial Officer
